"FROM PAGE TO SCREEN"
READING PHYSICAL BOOKS IS BETTER THAN READING THROUGH SCREENS?
In today's fast-paced world, people often wonder if reading online is significantly better than reading books in their physical form. Whether it is better or not, this might be a hotly-debated topic. This essay aims to analyse both sides of the argument in terms of the development of surface level, the concentration, visual noise.
On the one hand, with regard to the development of surface level, reading through screens provide us the capacity of skimming which is seldom important due to several negative effects as the loss of reading deeply. Deep reading can help us to make analogies and inference, which allows us to be truly critical, analytic, empathic... Concerning our concentrarion, what I have already told can make an impact on our attention spam, making us to have difficulties keeping our thoutghts in a period of time.
On the other hand, regarding visual noise, having a considerable amount of colourful books can have a huge impact on different people depending on their visual capacity. Regardless of what other people think, for me filling bookshelves is a vital pillar in my daily life.
To sum up, having considered both sides of the argument, it is my contention that physical books, despite the fact that it can provoke visual noise, are better than digital books owning to the lack of concentration and the development of surface level reading.
